A day's drive southeast, the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga rise 150 metres from the flat Saharan gravel plain, glowing rose-gold at dawn and volcanic orange at sunset. The entirely blue-painted hillside town of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains is one of the world's most photogenic places. And Indian passport holders need NO VISA for Morocco — making it one of Africa's most accessible first-time international destinations.

Morning Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs and Koutoubia Mosque. Afternoon souk circuit with local guide: spice souk, leather tannery (from rooftop), lantern souk, carpet quarter.
Drive over the Tizi n'Tichka High Atlas pass (2,260m). Stop at Aït Benhaddou UNESCO kasbah (Gladiator, Game of Thrones). Arrive Ouarzazate — 'Door to the Desert'.
Todra Gorge limestone canyon walk. Rose Valley. Draa Valley date-palm oasis drive. Arrive Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Afternoon camel trek into the Sahara dunes. Sunset from the highest dune. Overnight Berber camp: traditional tagine dinner, Gnawa music around the fire, stargazing.
Pre-dawn Sahara sunrise from the dunes. Drive north through Ziz Valley gorge to the imperial city of Fes. Evening Fes medina.
Morning Bou Inania Madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyin (world's oldest university). Afternoon Chouara tanneries seen from above. Traditional Fassi dinner.
Drive to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. Explore entirely blue-painted alleyways and stepped streets. Kasbah Museum. Sunset from the Spanish Mosque hilltop.
Transfer to Casablanca or Marrakech for return flight to Delhi.
