Japan Tourist Visa for Indians 2026: Documents, Timing and a Trip That Fits

Aug 18, 2026 · 7 min read · Destination Guide

Japan travel for Indian visitors

Japan is one of the strongest “dream trips” for Indian families and couples in 2026 — cherry blossom in spring, alpine colour in autumn, and winter lights. The visa is more paperwork than Thailand, but far more predictable than a first-time US interview if your file is complete.

Visa snapshot

Indian passport holders generally need a temporary visitor visa for tourism. Some profiles use an eVisa or specified visa agent channel depending on current Ministry of Foreign Affairs / embassy instructions. Requirements shift; we confirm the live checklist before you collect certificates of eligibility you do not need.

Expect a passport, photos, itinerary, hotel list, flights, bank proof, and employment or business papers. A day-wise Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka plan that matches hotel nights is better than a vague “10 days Japan.”

When to go

Late March–early April is sakura season and the most competitive for hotels. Book six to nine months ahead. October–November (koyo) is equally beautiful and slightly kinder on crowds. Summer is hot and festival-heavy. Winter suits ski add-ons in Hokkaido or Nagano if you already hold the same visitor visa window.

How we plan it

JR Pass maths changed in recent years — we only sell the pass when the actual long-distance legs beat individual shinkansen tickets. We keep temple days walkable and leave one buffer day for rain. See Japan holidays or start a custom plan.
